OFFC 101: College Keyboarding & Document Processing
Dual Credit Through TC3 (3 college credits)

Course Description:
This course develops basic keyboarding skills with emphasis on correct keying techniques for centering, tabulations, rough drafts, letters, memorandums, outlines, and reports with and without footnotes using Microsoft Word. Instruction will be given through lecturer and demonstrations.

Course Objectives:
Student will learn the rules for correct typing, spacing, punctuation, capitalization, centering, tabulations, letter formatting, envelopes, and reports with citations and footnotes.
Students will demonstrate mastery through daily typing exercises and timed production tests using Microsoft Word 2007.
TC3’s Rule for Timed Writings: Student goal for developing speed and accuracy on straight copy materials is a minimum of 34 wpm for 3 minutes with a maximum of 5 errors.
Grading Scale:
The grading scale below will be used to evaluate three-minute timed writings with 5 errors or less for dual credit only:

A- 43
B+ 42
B 40
B- 39
C+ 37-38
C 34-36(less than 34 wpm: NO Dual Credit)
C- 32-33
D+ 31
D 28-30
D- 26-27
F 25 or less
Class Lessons & Projects: It is important for the student to proofread his/her work carefully before handing it in. For every error your teacher finds, 5 points will be deducted. The computer has spell check, so please use it! You must also proofread your work carefully because spell check will only locate misspelled words. Always check for grammatical errors as well.
All class lessons & projects assigned must be turned in on time!
Lessons & projects will not be accepted for credit if more than two days late.
Students will have approximately 1-2 days to complete each lesson in the Gregg College Keyboarding & Document Processing Lessons 1-60 textbook. Instructor will observe student in determining correct keying practice.
Timed Writings: Students must proofread his/her timed writing and circle errors before handing in. Students will also learn how to calculate his/her words per minute when using the timed writing book.
Attendance Policy:
Students are required to attend class in order to be successful. If student should miss a class, it is his/her responsibility to make-up class work during his/her free time or make arrangements to stay after school.
Production Tests:
Production tests are designed to demonstrate the students’ ability to correctly set up typing problems without using the textbook as a reference and be able to complete the task in a limited time period. Objectives for the tests are:
All students must take the final exam at the end of the semester.
Grading Scale:
Keyboarding Lessons 30% of student’s grade
Timed Writings 35% of student’s grade
Tests 35% of student’s grade
Final Exam 15% of student’s grade
